Most high school football players would be more than happy with just a few places in the school record book by the time they graduate. However, in only three years of varsity football at Saginaw (Michigan) Swan Valley High School, running back Alex Grace was able to accomplish far more than that.
Grace graduated with an incredible 15 listings in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) football record book. Chief among them are his records for single-season rushing yards and consecutive games of at least 200 yards rushing. The former was set his junior year with 2,962 yards over 12 games, and the latter coming this past year after he ran for 200 yards in eight straight contests. All told, Grace only failed to reach 100 yards in a game twice in his career, both times coming in his sophomore season.
Also a phenomenal track athlete for the Vikings, holding school records in the 100- and 200-meter dash, Grace ended his career third in MHSAA history with 7,551 rushing yards. Despite playing 15 fewer games than the record-holder, Grace finished only 880 yards behind. If not for his older brother Jonathan taking most of the carries his freshman year, Alex may have become the new all-time leader.
Other notable MHSAA records of his include career rushing touchdowns with 102 (2nd), career points with 616 (8th) and career carries with 812 (6th).
Grace will continue his football career with Western Michigan University this fall.
