Coaches Information

NFHS Coaches Association membership is not limited to high school coaches. It can also apply to youth or recreational leagues and college coaching, but the sport must be recognized for high school participation by the state high school association.

The individual membership year period is one calendar year from the date the application and payment are entered online or is received in the NFHS office. One annual payment covers all eligible sports.

Mission Statement: The mission of the NFHS Coaches Association is to enhance the professional development of all high school sports coaches in order to improve interscholastic athletics in America.

Insurance Coverage:
  • Excess General Liability; Additional Umbrella coverage for coaches who have earned the Accredited Interscholastic Coach (AIC) credential.

Coaches Insurance Coverage Summary

Spirit Coaches Please Note: The insurance coverage will be extended to NFHS spirit coaches only while participating in activities sponsored and approved by the school which employs or contacts with the NFHS spirit Coaches. No coverage will be afforded to the NFHS Spirit Coaches for outside competitions, all-star events or activities that are not recognized by the participating school.

Schools/Groups can join by printing and submitting the Coaches Group Application. This will allow one contact person to submit one payment for all coaches and receive a roster renewal notice listing all coaches about to expire.

Officials Information

The NFHS Officials Association is a professional association providing numerous benefits to interscholastic contest officials.

To receive these benefits, including access to the NFHS Central Hub and Insurance Coverage, you can become a member of the NFHS Officials Association as an individual or through a participating organization.

NFHS cannot accept applications from individuals officiating in any of the 100% participating state associations. For state contact information please follow this link to our State Association Listing. 100% participating states:

Music Directors Information

Membership in the NFHS Music Association is $20 per year. One annual payment provides member benefits for one year from the date payment is received by the NFHS. For membership outside the United States, please write to the NFHS for current membership fees.

The NFHS Music Association is a national network of music directors, adjudicators and state coordinators of music activities. Its basic purpose is to improve the level and quality of participation and adjudication at high school festivals/contests within each state and among several states.

The mission of the NFHS Music Association is to identify and meet the common needs of music educators who participate in or sponsor high school interscholastic activities, an educational extension of the school music curriculum.

The NFHS Music Association Seeks to:
  • Stimulate an exchange of ideas that will minimize duplication of effort
  • Advocate stronger ties between state and regional programs
  • Offer a network of communication
  • Provide resources to enhance the quality of music festival/contest adjudication

Objectives of the NFHS Speech, debate and Theatre Association:
  • To coordinate speech, debate and theatre programs at the state and national levels
  • To provide in-service training for high school directors of speech, debate and theatre
  • To create a network of speech, debate and theatre educators who prepare students for contests and festivals
  • To share information, ideas, coaching techniques and contest management skills among prospective coaches, current high school and college directors of programs and state association administrators who have responsibilities for coordinating these programs
  • To involve high school coaches in the topic selection process for choosing the national high school policy debate topic To assist state coordinators with the development of speech, debate and theatre programs
  • To facilitate communication between coaches and directors at the high school level with those at the college level
  • To provide high school speech, debate and theatre directors with opportunities for sustained professional development.
