The Cherry Creek School District in Colorado is making it easy for families and fans that cannot make it to games to watch their teams and student-athletes live on the NFHS Network using their computers, tablets, phones and smart TVs.
“People can’t always be here,” said Larry Bull, director of activities and athletics for the Cherry Creek School District, “and we took an opportunity to bring in cutting-edge technology that live broadcasts all of our games from our district stadiums and our high school gymnasiums.”
The school district installed eight automated production units, manufactured by Pixellot, a global leader in automated sports production platforms. The HD-quality broadcast unit has built-in proprietary motion-tracking software to seamlessly capture and produce games without the need for a video production crew. Game productions are automatically streamed to the NFHS Network (www.nfhsnetwork.com) where they can be watched live or on demand.
“We’re excited whenever opportunities are provided that increase the branding and messaging of educational activities provided through our member schools,” said Rhonda Blanford-Green, commissioner of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA). “CHSAA is one of the founding members of the NFHS Network and our partnership with Pixellot is a giant leap forward toward comprehensive coverage of the high school activities experience.”
During the fall season, the six Cherry Creek high schools broadcasted a total of 56 football, 106 volleyball, 46 soccer and 54 field hockey games. “This fall exceeded our expectations as we were able to offer live broadcasts of every varsity, junior varsity and freshman home game in our major fall sports,” Bull said.
The winter sports season will be even busier, as almost 400 basketball games and wrestling matches will be broadcasted from across the school district. “This is a great way to showcase our students both in the local community and on a national stage.”
