For one game, Shannon Becker was truly perfect.

Becker, a sophomore pitcher for Mahopac (New York) High School, struck out all 21 batters she faced in a perfect game victory over Carmel High School on Wednesday.

Becker needed just 83 pitches to shut down Carmel in an 8-0 win. She caught four batters looking while the other 17 went down swinging.

"To get 21 straight strikeouts, it's something you don't see in a lifetime," Mahopac head coach Cristina Giansante told the Journal News. "I don't think people that are outside the softball world or the baseball world understand the magnitude of that."

While Becker's perfect game is believed to be the first 21-strikeout perfect game in New York high school softball history, it isn't the first time a pitcher from the tri-state area has done so.

Mia Faieta, now a senior for Cedar Grove (New Jersey) High School who has committed to St. John's, threw one of her own two years ago.

Becker, meanwhile, is on her own path to stardom. This year alone, she is 11-3 with a 0.28 ERA and 229 strikeouts in 99 innings. And at the plate, she's hitting .419 with one home run and nine RBIs.

Also, it isn't her only no-hitter of the season. On April 2, she struck out 19 batters in a one-walk no-no. And in a 21-0 win on April 17, she struck out all 16 batters she faced in five innings. Yes, you read that correctly.

"I honestly cannot fathom the fact that she's only a sophomore," Giansante said.
