NYSPHSAA to Vote on Transgender Guidelines for Member Schools

Some descriptionSome description

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association will vote later this month on proposed guidelines for transgender athletes' participation in high school athletics. While 37 states have already adopted a transgender policy, New York's proposal would be one the nation's least stringent, requiring only a note from a parent/guardian or medical professional to determine a student-athlete's gender identity.

Individual school districts would decide what accomodations should be made and any disputes would be taken to the state education commissioner.

"This is to provide our members guidance," said Robert Zayas, executive director for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. "It is by no means a mandated requirement."
